If you follow Fortnite competitive at all, you’ve probably noticed that OCE was excluded from the recent Stranger Things Cup, confirmed when Fortnite tweeted that the event wouldn’t be available in OCE.
The most likely reason is that the new season of Stranger Things is not available in the OCE region. Since the promotional focus of the cup is tied directly to the show’s release, it makes sense that the tournament would only run in regions where the new season is actually accessible.
Probably not. OCE may be a smaller region, and some people argue it doesn’t “deserve” FNCS or Global Championship spots, but the region is still home to some of the world’s biggest Fortnite creators who consistently produce competitive-focused content. Removing FNCS from OCE wouldn’t just hurt players. It would reduce Fortnite’s overall viewership.
In addition to that, many well-known figures in the community have been saying for a long time that OCE shouldn’t have a prize pool and that Fortnite makes no money from the region. These claims get repeated constantly, even though none of them take into account OCE’s creator ecosystem, competitive history, or the broader impact on Fortnite’s global presence.
Adding to the noise, Oatley tweeted that he hopes OCE gets removed from competitive so he can just move to NA. Is that actually going to happen? Almost certainly not. Oatley is known for posting tweets that spark controversy and debate, and this situation is no exception.
